New single – BARBIE GIRL!

We are dropping the bomb!!! Our new single Barbie Girl!!

Haven’t we all heard “Barbie Girl”, Aqua’s cheerful, pink shimmering although ironic pop hit from the 90’s. But what is the lyrics really about?

Barbie lives in an artificial fantasy world. She is called bimbo and you can do whatever you want with her. Brush her hair, undress her anywhere, touch her perfect body and play with her whenever and how you want.

Our interpretation of the song highlights the underlying dark and skew in the lyrics.
It’s no pleasant fantasy world Barbie lives in. Under the perfect surface, patriarchal structures, absurd body ideals and double standards hide.

Barbie is called bimbo because she wants to please and adapt to the norms. She is constantly observed and judged and is always expected to be available. She should always have a smile on her lips, but she should not enjoy herself; she only exists to please others.

Last year’s viral campaign Metoo has forced society to open its eyes a bit of sexual harassment and abuse of women. But how far have we actually come when the US president, a year after Metoo, says “it’s a very scary time for young men” about the men who are being accused.

We mean that it has always been scary to be a woman, young and old. It’s time for a change, and Trump and his henchman be scared for a while!

New single out now: La Chanson du Cochon – the Song of the Pig!

Cure-a-Phobia---La-Chanson-du-Cochon,-animation-400We give you our new single:
La Chanson du Cochon – the Song of the Pig

This song is a call for humanity to start taking care of our world and each other. To make the world a better place we must all take responsibility for our actions.

Pollution of sea and nature. Descent and exploitation of animals and plants. Devastation of rainforests. Limitations on human rights. Racism, homophobia and misogyny. Class differences. We are Generation Ego.

Who is actually the pig? The little harmless animal that is exploited and slaughtered by man or the human pig, who ruthlessly spoils the world for its own gain?

Friday 7 September we selebrate the single with a gig at Moriska Paviljongen, Malmö!

La Chanson du Cochon, taken from our upcoming third album Regeneration, features special guest appearances by the guitarist Johnny Essing (member of the legendary Swedish band bob hund), Nils Andersson (who plays Đàn bầu) and Anne Martin Tryffel, the Head of Economics at Cure-a-Phobia (grunts).

Recording our new album!!

Cure-a-Phobia at Tambourine Studios

Since december we have been recording new stuff at the legendary Tambourine Studios in Malmö, Sweden. We have invited a total of 13 amazing guests on the different tracks.

The album is about oppression, setbacks and liberation. Growing up, releasing control, breaking apart, recreating yourself and getting stronger. We want to stand up for sisterhood and urge for change.

We are creating new music

This year we are focusing on writing new music. Hopefully we can release a new album next year. We know, it’s been a long wait since the last one! This one will probably be a little bit different since we have the wonderful bass player Anne Marte in the band.

This i a tiny preview of what is coming.

European tour with painter Sara Gunnarsson

Cure-a-Phobia european tour rektangel

In exactly one week we start our European tour together with the amazing painter Sara Gunnarsson. The tour is called Meta Nights and is arranged by super cool Meta Projects.

BUT, we unfortunately made a little mistake when applying for travel grant from the government. We accidentally sent the application one day too late!

So, now we need your support! We have some awesome stuff to give in return. Please help us sharing this as well. It would mean a lot to us!

We are in China

China is crazy – And we love it!

We have met some wonderful people over here! They will be greatly missed when we go back.

We have been playing beautiful music, drinking A LOT of tea, jamming, trying and buying traditional Chinese flutes, eating amazing (vegetarian) food, giving seminars, messing with internet censorship, walking, talking about human worth, shopping for teacups and a thousand other things…

We hope to be able to come back in the future, or maybe some of the Chinese musicians can come to Sweden?!
